Sinus Lifting

“Preparing a Strong Foundation for Implants in the Upper Jaw.”
In the posterior region of the upper jaw (molar area), bone loss and the downward expansion of the sinus cavities after tooth loss are common conditions. At Dentorjin Dental Clinic, in our Istanbul and Tirana branches, we perform Sinus Lifting—one of our advanced surgical techniques—to elevate the sinus cavity and create the necessary bone volume for implant placement.
What Is Sinus Lifting?
Anatomically, there are air-filled cavities above the upper jaw called the “Maxillary Sinuses.” After tooth extraction, if the bone in this region becomes thin, there may not be enough height for implant placement. Sinus Lifting is a surgical procedure in which the sinus membrane is gently elevated and bone graft material (bone powder) is placed underneath to increase bone height.
When Is It Necessary?
- If there is severe bone loss in the posterior upper jaw due to long-term tooth absence.
- If the sinus cavities are anatomically positioned too low, leaving insufficient bone height for implants.
- If bone resorption has occurred in the upper jaw due to trauma or advanced gum disease.
Sinus Lifting Techniques at Dentorjin
We determine the most appropriate technique based on the patient’s bone structure using digital tomography (CBCT) analysis:
- Closed Sinus Lifting: Applied when bone loss is minimal. The sinus floor is gently elevated through the implant socket. In most cases, the implant can be placed during the same session.
- Open Sinus Lifting (Lateral Window): Preferred in cases of advanced bone loss. A small window is opened on the lateral side of the sinus, bone graft material is added, and implant placement is performed after a healing period of 4–6 months.
Treatment Comfort and Success
- Pain-Free Procedure: Performed under local anesthesia, the procedure takes approximately 20–30 minutes and the patient feels no pain.
- Precise Planning: Thanks to 3D imaging systems used in our Istanbul and Tirana clinics, we work with millimetric precision without damaging the sinus membrane.
- High Success Rate: When performed with the correct materials and by experienced surgeons, it is an extremely safe procedure that directly increases the longevity of implants.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Will there be significant swelling after the procedure? Mild swelling or bruising is normal. With recommended ice compresses and prescribed medication, it usually subsides within a few days.
- How long after sinus lifting can an implant be placed? If a Closed Sinus Lift is performed, the implant can often be placed in the same session. If an Open Sinus Lift is performed, 4–6 months are required for the graft to transform into mature bone.
- What should I avoid after the procedure? For the first few days, you should avoid forceful nose blowing, strong sneezing, and using straws. This helps maintain pressure balance within the sinus area.
